There’s not a lot we don’t know about logs.

FAQs.

Q: – Why don’t you sell your wood by weight?

Always buy your wood by volume and not by weight. While it is still quite common to be quoted a price per weight, it doesn’t make much sense as the heavier the log is the more moisture it will contain. Remember you are buying energy and the drier the log, the more efficient heat it will produce.

Q: – Why shouldn’t I burn wet wood?

Burning wet wood is inefficient as it demands a lot of heat to boil off the water before the appliance can give out the proper level of heat to the room, hot water, or heating systems. In turn, this creates a lot of smoke which damages the chimney and blackens the appliance and contributes to air pollution. Dry wood that has been properly sourced and seasoned or kiln dried to low moisture levels produces fewer particulates, offers better heat efficiency, and incurs less maintenance – chimneys are less likely to block and will remain easier to sweep.

Q: – Will the new government legislation coming in in 2022 affect what logs I can buy?

– Yes, the government proposes that wood sold in single units under 2m3 (loose stacked) must have a moisture content of 20% or less. ‘Wet wood’ sold over these volumes will be required to come with advice on how to dry it ready for burning. Wood sold in smaller quantities is more likely to be used immediately and not dried at home, the proposal aims to limit the sale of wood sold in smaller sizes of packaging to dry wood only. This is better for the environment, your chimney, and your fire.
– The government now intends to take forward their proposal for a mandatory certification scheme demonstrating that wood sold in volumes under 2m3 is dry (less than 20% moisture).

Q: – What are the main differences between kiln dried and barn stored?

It’s all about the consistency of moisture in the log. Kiln dried logs are consistently dry and ours are accredited by the Woodsure Ready to Burn Scheme. With barn stored logs that are dried naturally in the air, there is much more room for variation in the stock and within the log itself.

Q: – Why don’t you offer a tipped load?

Loose loads can vary in quantity from load to load, with our bags you know you are getting the same consistent amount of wood every time you order. There’s no having to pick your logs up off the driveway and having to take them to your storage spot only to have to restack them again.
We like our delivery system – it is clean, tidy, and convenient and as the bags have been designed to fit perfectly onto a sack truck, our delivery crews can get the bags to wherever you want them!

Q: – How long will I have to wait for delivery?

We aim to deliver your order to you within 5 working days, this may extend at peak times. Our advice is always to get your order in early, once the order is made and paid for it can always be deferred to a later date if required.  You don’t even have to be in, just give us some clear instruction and we will do the rest. However, if you’d like to be there for your delivery – no problem. We can give you a two-hour time slot prior to your delivery day and we deliver on Saturdays at no extra cost.

Q: – Do I need to be in to receive my order?

No, we carry out lots of our deliveries without anyone having to wait in, just give us clear instructions as to where you would like your logs left and we can deliver in your absence. Pop a contact number on your order and in the unlikely event there is a problem we will call to chat it over with you.

Q: – Do you deliver nationwide?

No. we carry out all our own deliveries with our own crews. We currently deliver to all of Dorset, South Somerset and East Devon (please use our postcode checker to see if we can deliver to you). We are always looking for expansion opportunities without compromising our unique way of working, unfortunately, nationwide delivery is not available at the moment but please keep checking back!

Q: – What size logs do we supply?

We offer our logs cut to either 8” (approx. 20 cm) or 12” (approx. 30 cm) lengths as standard and all are locally sourced hardwoods. However, if you require a different size, please call the office and we will do all we can to help.

Q: – Do you import any of your wood?

No, we only use British hardwoods for our logs, and source our timber as close by as possible so that we keep our footprint nice and light.

Q: – Can I stock your wood to sell?

Yes, you can. We do have retailers that stock our wood for sale. Please call the office on 01308 868378 for a chat.

Q: – Are your log bags waterproof?

No, please be aware that our bags are not fully waterproof. To maintain optimum dryness and performance we recommend storing under cover preferably in a shed, outhouse or garage. If you have to store outside, we can supply complimentary covers to help keep some moisture out but some water ingress may occur in wet weather.
